Jesse Jones Jr. Biography:

A Miami native, Jesse Jones Jr. is an exceptional saxophonist and a vibrant force in South Florida’s jazz scene. He has been instrumental in the area’s burgeoning jazz renaissance, captivating audiences with his infectious positivity and dynamic stage presence. Jesse’s musical journey began as a child, inspired by a neighbor’s saxophone playing and the sounds of Cannonball Adderley. He studied music at Mississippi Valley State University before joining the U.S. Navy Show Band, where he traveled throughout North and South America, honing his showmanship and engaging with diverse audiences. After his military service, Jesse returned to Miami and signed with Fantasy Records, releasing his debut CD, “Soul Serenade,” in 1996. His latest project, “The So Then Collection,” released in May 2009, showcases his unique sound and artistry. Having performed alongside jazz legends such as Donald Byrd, Dexter Gordon, and Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jesse leads his own quartet and often collaborates with his brother, renowned trumpet player Melton Mustafa. His technical mastery on alto, soprano, and baritone saxophones, as well as flute, reflects influences from jazz greats like Hank Crawford and Paul Desmond. Jesse’s performances are memorable experiences, blending intricate arrangements with his engaging “scat” jazz singing. With unwavering support from his wife, Thelma, and his dedicated fans, Jesse Jones Jr. continues to share his passion for music and spread love, peace, and jazz wherever he performs.
